• Is it very dirty? Dilute about 10 drops of lemon essential oil in a mixture made with 90 percent demineralized water and 10 percent denatured alcohol. Wipe over with a cloth.

• To prevent condensation from forming, rub your glass and mirrors with black soap. Allow to dry and then remove the excess with a cloth, taking care to wipe in a circular motion, working from the outside inward to avoid leaving streaks. The black soap will leave behind a fine film of glycerine invisible to the naked eye, which will stop condensation from forming.

Making your chrome shine

Are the faucets covered in a white film? This is due to limescale. To remove it and get your chrome looking pristine again, scrub them with half a lemon. Leave to act for 5 minutes and then polish with a lint-free cloth. There’s no need to rinse.

Use a soft toothbrush and a cloth to get the hard-to-reach parts.

Scouring the bathtub

A soak in the bathtub wouldn’t be very appealing if you allowed it to get dirty or caked with limescale.

• If you have an enamel bathtub, rub it with half a lemon, while concentrating on the stains. Leave to act for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse in clean water. Is it proving hard to lift? Sprinkle the lemon with table salt, rub again, and leave on for at least 30 minutes. Then take a cloth soaked in white vinegar and wipe it over the bathtub. Rinse in clean water and wipe with a dry cloth.
